So that leaves us to conclude that the internet companies that
are succeeding are making a profit. And this is verified by many many
articles in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg.com, and many other
reputable business reporting services.
It would seem that these internet company CEO's would have known that,
but most figured they had more time before they had to make
a profit. After all investors were throwing tons of money at them.
A small internet business thrives.
I started on the internet in 1995 full time with no money from investors.
I did not buy million dollar parties and thousands of thousand dollar chairs.
I never hit billionaire status as many of these internet founders did
but I have made a profit since day one and I am still here.
What I did I can easily teach you to do also. I am going to
teach you for free in this letter. If I told you to go
find investors or raise 100 million dollars from an IPO to start your new

read. But I am going to show you how anyone can easily start without investors.

On October 15th, 1995, I started writing two series of stories. One was
about my hometown and the other was about preserving our Earth.
That is the FIRST PART of the SECRET. I will reveal the rest in a bit.
I knew my hometown was interesting to a lot of people since it was a genuine
old west town. As I grew up in Sheridan, Wyoming, people from all over the world would
travel to see it. Also when I moved to the big city in 1984 people were
always very interested in learning about this old west town.
So assuming others on the internet would be interested I started the stories
about growing up in an old west town in Wyoming.
The second newsletter was something I just believed in. I had no idea if anyone
was interested but I wanted to write something to help make a positive impact
on our world.
HERE IS THE SECOND PART OF THE SECRET:
Soon I had 100,000 people reading my weekly stories. You can see them at

to the audience. (Keep reading to find out how I got the 100,000 readers).
In 1992 I finished research and testing on an Earth friendly cleaning product
that had miraculous results, incorporated People for Extending Earth's Life Inc.
and started selling the product.
When I moved the business 100% to internet
only marketing in 1995, I put advertisements for this product in my weekly email letters
and quickly was selling $2000.00 worth of products every week. Part of the
SECRET is how we found the right price to sell these products, revealed to
you in a bit.
It was a lot of work to keep writing stories every week and as you can tell
from my stories I am not a professional writer. This means that you can
probably write something of interest to other people also.
CHOOSE TO WRITE ABOUT WHAT YOU KNOW
You can write a small paragraph or you can have a friend do it.
You can write just a few pointers. It does not have to be a story form.
The facts are this, if
you are involved in selling something it should be something you are
interested in. IF YOU ARE TRULY INTERESTED IN WHAT YOU ARE SELLING then you should be
able to write 3 to 5 interesting facts or helpful hints about what you
sell at least 1 time every 2 weeks.
Using the facts, or stories, or hints, or a small paragraph of information,
gives you a reason to contact all your potential clients on a regular basis.
This is called Direct Marketing via email. Direct email does work. How did
you get to this site? If it was not the direct result of an email, it was
from a link from another one of our sites either today or years ago.
HERE IS THE THIRD PART OF THE SECRET:
Spam will kill your business faster than you can say shootmeintheheadandleavemefordead.
Even if you are not spamming and someone accuses you of spam it will probably
cost you your internet business.
So how can you send direct email without spamming or getting accused of spamming?
1. Only put people on your list that fill out a form on your website
to join and then confirm after being sent a confirmation email. This
assures that the only people on your list getting emails are those that
want it.
2. Always remove undeliverable and remove requests immediately and
politely.
3. Always use a good letter that people will remember. If the person that
joined your list is interested in what you have to say, they will be
expecting and waiting on your letter. Do not disappoint them. Give them
useful information each time.
4. Put a note at the top of your letter that reminds them who you are, and how they
can remove themselves from your list.
5. Include their name in your letter. If possible, include their first
and last name, the date they signed up for your newsletter, and even the
IP address they were on when they joined. To do this you will need to
find an email program that allows you to integrate your database with
the emails. (Later I will show you how to get an email program that will do this).
HERE IS THE FIFTH PART OF THE SECRET:
Put a classified ad at the top of each newsletter you send out selling a
product or service that relates to your audience.
You may even send out an occasional solo advertisement to your entire
list with the email dedicated only to the advertisement. However, you
should let the subject indicate what you are selling. Also do not
abuse this priviledge or you will offend your audience. Normally a
weekly solo advertisement is acceptable.
HERE IS THE SIXTH PART OF THE SECRET:
Finding the right product and price is very important. The product should be
sold at a reasonable price to include the shipping cost. People like free
shipping but you should not go broke paying for it.
The product must relate to the audience.
If you are writing a newsletter about fixing antique automobiles you do
not want to place an ad for selling plant fertilizer. The product would
have to be something that the restorers of antique automobiles could use.
The product should have a profit margin of 70% at least.
And then you test.
Send an advertisement to your list and see what kind of response you get.
No one on this planet can know the reaction the public will make when
presented with a product until the presentation is actually done.
We can guess. We can use scientific analysis. And we can be right sometimes
but more often than not we never know until the test is in.
Write the best classified you can for the first try. MAKE SURE THE
HEADLINE IS SHORT AND TELLS THE ENTIRE STORY.
Guess at a price you think will be the best received, that will give you
a good profit margin. I strongly suggest a 70% profit margin.
If you get positive results from your first mailing change one
thing for the next mailing and see if you get better results.
ONLY CHANGE ONE THING AT A TIME WHEN TESTING. This way you
know exactly what made the difference.
USE PACKAGES WHEN POSSIBLE. People like packages. It is easy
for them to choose a package over pieces as a general rule.
When we started selling our cleaning products, we started out
selling a list of products they could choose from. After
testing each mailing we found that making a package with
4 of our products and some extras included, to sell
to the first time buyer was the best way to do it. We then
included a catalog for them to make additional purchases
in the future.
We called this the Earth Pack. It was a very good value
at $100, but we tested it from $35 to $75.
Can you guess the best selling price?
We found that
the $49 price would outsell the $75 price and the $35 price
10 to 1. Who would have guessed at that?
So testing is important.
HERE IS THE SEVENTH PART OF THE SECRET:
GETTING YOUR LIST OF READERS
So here is a question for you. If you are not allowed to spam to
get traffic to a website to sign up people for your opt in email
list how do you get the traffic?
hmmmmmmmmm.
Here are the answers:
1. List on search engines.
2. Tell all your friends.
3. Do cross links with other sites.
4. Buy mailings on other ezines.
5. Buy banner advertising.
6. Join newsgroups and answer questions with a signature that has a link to your site.
7. Get your subscribers to refer other people to your list.
8. Make sure your website has an easy way for people to subscribe to your mailing list.
Let's cover the top subjects
First, listing on search engines. A great place to do
this for free is at worldsubmitter.com. They will place you on hundreds of search
engines as you watch.
Next, tell all your friends. Wear t-shirts with your URL. Put a sign on your car,
a message on your answering machine, etc, but tell all your friends.
Third, get cross links with other sites. Visit websites that are not your competition
but seem to have the customers you are looking for. Offer to trade links. Be careful
you can get accused of spamming for this. I suggest you call them on the telephone
to ask to switch links. Here is how you find the phone number of a website owner: Go
to whois.net and type in the domain name of the website. You will find the name, address,
and phone number of the owner of that website.
Fourth, buy mailings on other ezines. If you choose a quality ezine that has a subject that appeals to your potential customers, place a small advertisement to test it. In my experience a small ad will not work, IE: a classified in an ezine. Solo advertisements pull much better for the buck. You can do a search on any search engines for ezines and find hundreds
of them.
Fifth, buy banner advertising. There are tons of it available and with all the
falling out of the other internet companies they are a bargain price at this time.
Do a small test. If it makes you a profit, continue, if not stop.
Sixth, find newsgroups that contain your potential customers. People that may
be interested in what you have to sell. Give useful and thoughtful answers
and questions that are NOT looking as if you are just trying to make a sale.
If you gain the respect of the others in the newsgroup they will visit your
website. Just use a link in your signature. Do not SPAM the newsgroup by breaking their rules for advertsing your own business.
Seventh. Get your subscribers to refer other subscribers. The very best way to
do this is to first write a quality newsletter and then just ask your subscribers
to refer their friends.
You can offer incentives but I believe this does not work a tenth as well as
the incentive of a person to refer a friend that believes they are doing a good
thing. In each newsletter request, "If you enjoy my newsletter, please send
your friends to my website so they can receive it also."
Eighth, make sure your website has an easy way for your visitors to subcribe. I have
been to many websites that asked me to join their ezine or mailing list, and I cannot
find the form to do it. Make sure it is easy to find, simple to use.
